Abroad in Teisko, Anni Domini 2001

"Abroad in Teisko", as we use to say here in Tampere. Teisko has been of course part of Tampere for a long time, that bootleg part of the boot shaped city of Tampere. Teisko is sparsely inhabited countryside and drops the average amount of inhabitants per square kilometer in Tampere below the definition of a city in European Union. In Finnish scale Tampere is a city, actually the third largest one in Finland. You can move around in Tampere by bus, and the fee is the same for whole city area. Basically you can go abroad in Teisko, and with good luck even change bus and come back, for about two Euros.

My friend and namesake Jussi lived for some time in Teisko, or in "Texas", as he uses to say. This collection of images contains some photographs from rowing boat at the time of breaking up of ice, some photographs at a misty summer night, and some from our visit to the territory of one western capercaillie. That bird is well known amongst the locals, it is defending it's territory near the same road every spring. The beautiful bird can hardly be seen during summer time, but during spring time it literally attacks you. Luckily the bird was more angry to our car, and I managed to slip inside the vehicle and take some nice pictures from this "hiding place".

In the misty images I tried to catch the unreal colours of the dusk, the colours between the blue moment and reddish sunset. When we were coming back to the riverbank, we were running out of light almost totally and the last pictures have some video noise. This noise actually resembled quite a lot the grain of a film and suits the images beautifully. You can not always guess how things go, and sometimes you are just lucky...

Images are taken using Sony DSC-F505 2 megapixel digital camera, then framed and retouched lightly in Photoshop.
